Wafaqi Mohtasib

Hon’ble Mr. Muhammad Salman Faruqui ‘Nishan-i-Imtiaz’, the incumbent Wafaqi Mohtasib Pakistan, has an exemplary public service record spread over 50 years. He has been a Secretary in the Federation and provinces for over two decades and was elevated to the post of Secretary General to the Federal Government in 1993 with the status of Minister of State. He has served as the Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission and Ambassador-at-Large in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well. He has also served as Secretary General to the President of Pakistan.

He has made major contributions in the socioeconomic uplift of the country. While serving on various key positions, he modernized the telecom sector in Pakistan, and fibre optic, digital and mobile phones and international direct dialling were introduced by him. It was for the first time in any developing country that private investment was attracted in power generation sector, which resulted in addition of thousands of megawatts in the national grid.

Mr. Faruqui has a law degree and postgraduate degrees in Political Science, International Relations and Public Administration. He took oath as Acting Wafaqi Mohtasib on 11th December, 2012.
