Insurance Ombudsman

Honorable Azhar Ali Farooqi retired from active service in 2010 after having served in various senior Federal and Provincial Government assignments for over 39 years. Besides having served twice as the Chief of Karachi Police and also as the Provincial Police Chief for the Sindh Province, he has a vast and varied experience of working in senior position in various anticorruption and accountability outfits of the country. He was Director of the Federal Investigation Agency for the Province of Sindh as well as Balochistan and subsequently he was posted as the Additional Director General FIA at Islamabad. He was Chairman Anti-Corruption Establishment Sindh and also the Director General of National Accountability Bureau Sindh. He was also worked for Civil Aviation Authority heading various Directorates including Commercial, Airport Management and HR.

He was appointed as the Federal Insurance Ombudsman in 2010. In his capacity as the second FIO office, he has made remarkable contribution to establish the institution practically ab-initio. Relevant suggestions were incorporated in the Federal Ombudsman Institutional Reforms Act 2013 on vehement and specific recommendation of Mr. Farooqi that led to provision of annual budget of the institution from the Federal Consolidated Fund instead of a contributory dole by the Insurance industry. Similarly many other provisions incorporated in the Federal Ombudsman Institutional Reforms Act 2013 on his recommendation have brought a sea change in the outlook and functioning of the institution.

Mr. Farooqi graduated from elite educational institutions of Pakistan and has also obtained advanced education in Law and jurisprudence from the USA. He is widely traveled and has attended many International Seminars and Conferences.
